"Fascynujące dzieje Figury Matki Bożej Różańcowej w Szczawnicy na Miedziusiu"

W Szczawnicy na Miedziusiu, przy ul. Głównej (w pobliżu Parku Dolnego) stoi pięknie odnowiona figura Matki Bożej Różańcowej, według góralskiej tradycji ufundowana za pieniądze zgubione przez zbójników.

Figura przedstawia stojącą na postumencie Matkę Bożą z Dzieciątkiem, które w obu rączkach trzyma różaniec. Madonna ma włosy spływające za ramiona, rozczesane na środku głowy, włosy Dzieciątka zakrywają uszy i są gładko uczesane, z przedziałkiem po lewej stronie. Ubiór Maryi stanowi długa, brązowa suknia, spod której wystaje kołnierz i rękawy kremowej koszuli, suknię opina obszerna, niebieska chusta. Mały Jezus ma na sobie długą, białą koszulę, spod której nie widać stóp, a nóżki podkurczone, jak w postawie siedzącej. Matka Boża stoi boso.

Figura nakryta jest blaszanym daszkiem wspartym na czterech żelaznych prętach, daszek wieńczy pozłacana korona z krzyżem. Czworoboczny, wysoki postument ozdabiają dwie płaskorzeźby: od frontu św. Dominik modlący się z różańcem, na lewym boku św. Jan Chrzciciel z barankiem, przedstawiony jako dziecko. Na prawym boku postumentu, pod wieńczącym go ozdobnym gzymsem znajduje się zagadkowa szczelina. Kapliczka jest współcześnie datowana – pod płaskorzeźbą św. Dominika wyryto napis: ANNO DOMINI 1871. Warszawscy konserwatorzy rzeźby kamiennej Krystyna i Piotr Antoniakowie, którzy przeprowadzili renowację figury, wyrazili opinię, że nie pochodzi ona z warsztatu ludowego, lecz jest dziełem wprawnego rzemieślnika, aczkolwiek o niezbyt wysokich uzdolnieniach artystycznych...

"The fascinating history of the figure of Our Lady of the Rosary in Miedziuś in Szczawnica"

There is a beautifully renovated figure of Our Lady of the Rosary standing on ul. Główna in Miedziuś in Szczawnica close to the Lower Park. According to Highlander tradition, it was funded using money lost by robbers.

The figure represents the Blessed Virgin Mary with Infant Jesus holding a rosary in both hands, standing on a plinth. The hair of the Madonna is parted on the top of her head and flows down below the arms, and the neatly combed hair of Our Lord covers his ears and is parted on the left. Mary is dressed in a long, brown gown with the collar and sleeves of a cream blouse appearing underneath, while a voluminous blue shawl is wrapped around the gown. Little Jesus is wearing a long white shirt, from under which you cannot even see his feet as his legs are curled up to let him sit. His Mother is standing barefoot.

The figure is protected with a metal roof supported on four iron rods, and the whole is topped with a gilded crown with a cross. The high plinth is decorated with two bas-reliefs: St Dominic praying with a rosary in the front, and St John the Baptist with a lamb, presented as a child, on the left hand side. There is a mysterious crack on the right side of the plinth under the decorative cornice that tops it. There is a date marked below St Dominic which was added to the shrine at the time of its completion: the inscription reads ANNO DOMINI 1871. Krystyna and Piotr Antoniak from Warsaw, the stone sculpture conservation experts who renovated the figure, expressed the opinion that it is not the work of a folk sculptor but rather of a skilful craftsman, yet with hardly any artistic talent.
